FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2020
The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project, IIT Bombay invites applications for Summer Fellowship 2020 from students in all the streams across the country. FOSSEE works on the promotion and development of Free/Libre and Open Source Software in education and is funded by the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Government of India.
Who can Apply: All college students (Bachelor, Masters, Ph.D., etc.) from all streams (Eengineering, Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) are welcome to participate in the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2020.

The participants can select up to a maximum of two topics mentioned in the below and submit the screening task for the respective topic

The details of the topics and screening tasks for each are given in the tables under "Topics for the screening task submission" tab

For the topics under: "Tasks which require proposal and acceptance", the participants have to first make a proposal and submit the tasks only after the acceptance of the proposal

For the topics mentioned under "Tasks which do not require proposal and acceptance", the participants have to directly submit the task without any proposal

The completed tasks will be reviewed by the domain experts in the FOSSEE team

After the review, the selected participants will be called for the fellowship at IIT Bombay.

If a participant selects a task under "Tasks that require submitting a proposal and accepting it" and has completed it, then the participant will be eligible for honorarium and certificate.
Topics for Screening Task Submission:
You are allowed to select a maximum of two topics from the below tables. But we recommend you to focus on one screening task under a topic and submit it successfully.

Tasks that require submitting a proposal and acceptance, resulting in collaborative content creation:
Chemical Process Simulation: Create chemical process flowsheets using DWSIM and OpenModelica
Power Systems Simulation: Create power system simulations using OpenIPSL library in OpenModelica
Electronic Circuit Simulation (eSim): Simulate electronic circuits using advanced features of eSim
CFD Simulation: Submitting Case Studies using OpenFOAM
Xcos: Creation of Block Diagram using Xcos
R Programming Language: Submission of Textbook companion project and identifying some of the local problems that could be addressed through the R programming Language
QGIS: Creating maps and analyzing spatial data using QGIS.
Scilab: Creating Case Studies using Scilab
Osdag: Solve steel design examples as per Indian Code/ Optimize steel design problems and prepare report in LaTeX
Gamified Tutoring and Evaluation System: Create a learning game to increase students' interest in programming languages.
Employer Recommendation System: Mapping students with potential employers.
Mind Map generation tool: Hierarchical mind map generation from a spoken tutorial video or script.
Buddy programme: Mapping mentors with mentees to improve employability prospects.
Graphics and Animation: Creating graphic and animations using Inkscape, GIMP, Blender, etc.
Some tasks may require a Screening test(no collaborative content creation, however):
Electronic Circuit Simulation (eSim): Implement a Client-Server architecture for Windows OS using C
Web Development: Creating custom modules, custom themes, and websites using Drupal./ Installing and configuring Web Applications for System Administration/DevOps tasks on RHEL or CentOS 7/8.
Scilab: Developing toolboxes in Scilab
Python: Develop a desktop application, Django App
Django/Angular App: Implement a web-based system using Django/Angular for video processing and analysis
EDA Tool on Cloud: Design and develop a web-based Electronic Circuit design and simulator which will be hosted on the cloud.
Arduino on Cloud: Design and develop a web-based Arduino circuit design and simulator which will be hosted on the cloud.
Xcos: Create XSL stylesheets to transform one XML to another XML.
OpenPLC: Application development in 4DIAC.
Mathematics using Python: Creation of lecture notes for a mathematics topic and numerical computation
Spring Hibernate application: Optimizing the functionalities of the current system developed using Spring. Designing UI templates using Bootstrap and Theamleaf.
Snippet videos using multimedia and VFX for introduction and marketing purposes: Make a 1-min course intro snippet for ST FLOSS series - C/C++, Java, LaTeX, Python, Scilab, Arduino, eSim, Linux, Moodle, Koha, FrontAccounting, HTML & CSS.
Data migration/Service operation in Moodle: Migrate Moodle from 2.4 to the latest stable version with all the data.
Spoken Tutorial Event Logs and Analytics System: Create a Spoken Tutorial Analytics System for capturing and visualizing log events
Promo video using multimedia for promoting Health and Nutrition series: Create a 30 to 40 seconds promo video for Spoken Tutorial - Health and Nutrition series using Blender, Synfig, Inkscape and GIMP
Blockchain: Build (BUIDL) a dApp using Blockchain
Koha and Dspace Customization: Online Book Suggestion Process
Instructions:

The FOSSEE team encourages you to select a maximum of two topics mentioned in the above tables.

We strongly recommend you to complete and submit at least one task from the selected topics for better chances of selection

Each task should be taken up by an individual only. We do not encourage group submissions.

Honorarium (if any) will be as per FOSSEE norms.

Kindly make sure that your submission files do not contain any copyrighted content.

FOSSEE team shall evaluate the submissions and declare the final list of selected candidates for fellowship on the basis of the completeness, correctness and the quality of the tasks submitted.

FOSSEE team reserves the right for the selection and rejection of the FOSSEE fellows. This decision shall be final and non-questionable.

FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project promotes the use of FLOSS tools to improve the quality of education in our country. We aim to reduce dependency on proprietary software in educational institutions. We encourage the use of FLOSS tools through various activities to ensure commercial software is replaced by equivalent FLOSS tools. We also develop new FLOSS tools and upgrade existing tools to meet requirements in academia and research.
