Parameters for Ranking of Institutions:
The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception” for ranking.
Ranking Methodology:
For India Rankings – 2020, the main ranking parameters and Methodology remain the same as previous year.
Source of Data: Institutions and Third Party Source: In the absence of a reliable and comprehensive database that could supply all relevant data required for computing the scores for ranking, registered institutions were invited to submit the required data through an Online Data Capturing System (DCS).
Data Collection and Data Capturing: Data capturing through Online Data Capturing System (DCS) sought the detailed data in a format that would be useful for both computing the ranking metrics for each parameter, and also to check on data consistencies. Detailed notes were provided to explain even the simplest of data entries to make it easily comprehensible and user friendly.
Publications, Citations and Highly Cited Papers (HCP): Web of Science(WoS) and Scopus: Two sets of citation databases were used as sources for retrieving data on the number of publications, citations and highly cited papers for the registered institutions.
Online Feedback System: Stakeholders (that included public or other individuals or entities having an interest in one or more institutions) were invited to give their feedback through “Online Feedback System” on the data submitted by the institutions, through a public advertisement in the newspapers and other media.
Data Verification: The Implementation Core Committee (ICC) set-up by the MHRD to oversee the implementation of ranking work addressed issues and pit-falls in the process of data collection, verification, authentication and interpretation.
Nodal officers were identified and contacted to clear doubts or to attend to the feedback and anomalies pointed out by the expert committees. Verification of Data on Publications, Citations and Highly Cited Papers.
Data Interpretation and Ranking: Based on issues and pit-falls brought to the notice of Implementation Core Committee (ICC) related to data collection, verification, authentication and interpretation minor deviations were introduced in the metric and parameters defined in the NIRF.
Rankings are based on the information and data provided by the institutions. Data on publications and citations have been taken from standard indexing and citation sources, viz., Scopus (Elsevier Science) and Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics, formerly Thomson Reuters). Perception data has been compiled from inputs from employers and peers.
