Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts. GATE 2023 will be a computer-based test (CBT) which is being organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The exam will be conducted by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee), on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI).

Qualified GATE score can be used for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to : (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. GATE score is also used by some colleges and institutions for giving admission to students without MoE scholarship/assistantship. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted to test the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering / Technology / Architecture and both undergraduate and post-graduate level subjects in Arts, Commerce and Science. GATE 2023 will be conducted for 29 subjects (also referred to as “papers”) and it would be distributed over Saturday 4 th, Sunday 5 th, Saturday 11 th and Sunday 12 th of February 2023. The GATE 2023 examination is conducted in different cities across India as well selected cities in the countries of Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, and UAE. The examination would be a Computer Based Test (CBT).

The GATE score would reflect the relative performance level of the candidate in a particular subject. Note that the GATE 2023 score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results. No information on the GATE 2023 score will be available after this period

Eligibility: Before starting the application process, the candidate must ensure that they meet the educational eligibility criteria of GATE 2023. A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2023 exam.

Examination Duration: All the papers of the GATE 2023 examination will be of 3 hours duration and they consist of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. Since the examination is a computer-based test (CBT), at the end of the stipulated time (3-hours), the computer screen will automatically close the examination inhibiting any further action.
