UPSC - Engineering Services Examination-2020

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is conducting Engineering Services Examination-2020 for recruiting Group‐A/B Services/Posts from the following Engineering streams/Categories.

  • Category-I: Civil Engineering (Group‐A Services/Posts)

  • Category-II: Mechanical Engineering (Group‐A/B Services/Posts)

  • Category-III: Electrical Engineering (Group‐A/B Services/Posts)

  • Category-IV: Electronics & Telecommunications (Group‐A/B Services/Posts)

 

Recruitment to the Services/Posts mentioned above will be made on the basis of “Preliminary and Mains” the scheme(s) of examination (Ref. Appendix-I to the Notice/Notification).

Selection Process:

The examination shall be conducted according to the following plan:-

Stage-I (Preliminary) Examination: Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination (Objective Type Papers) for the selection of candidates for the Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination;

Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude): 2hrs

Paper-II (Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunications): 3hrs

 

Stage-II (Main) Examination: The Examination shall comprise of two conventional (Descriptive) type papers of engineering category Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunications.

Paper-I : 3hrs

Paper-II: 3Hrs

 

Stage-III: Personality Test

 

Candidates who are declared qualified on the result of Preliminary/Stage-I Examination will be required to indicate their preference for Services/Posts at the appropriate time in the Detailed Application Form.

 

The Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination will consist of two objective type (multiple choices) questions papers and carrying a maximum of 500 marks (Paper I – 200 Marks & Paper II – 300 Marks). Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary/Stage-I Examination in the year will be eligible for admission to the Main/Stage II Examination of that year provided they are otherwise eligible for admission to the Main/Stage-II Examination. The Marks obtained in Preliminary/Stage-I Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main/Stage-II Examination will be counted for determining their final order of merit. The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main/Stage-II Examination will be about six to seven time the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through this examination.

 

The Engineering Services (Main/stage-II) Examination will consist two conventional type papers in Engineering Discipline specific with duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600 (300 Marks in each paper).

 

The Stage-III will consist of Personality Test carrying 200 Marks.

 

Marks obtained by the candidates in the Stage-I:(Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination, Stage-II:(Main/Stage-II) Examination and Stage-III (Personality Test) would determine their final ranking. Candidates will be allotted to the various services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preference expressed by them for the various services/posts.

After Stage-I results, Notification for Stage-II examination, will be available in the link: http://www.upsc.gov.in/examinations/active-exams

 

Stage-II Examination admit card will be available for download for the candidates qualified in Stage-I examination.

 

Application Fee:

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/PH who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs.200/‐ (Rupees Two hundred only).

About Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

The origin of the Public Service Commission in India is found in the First Dispatch of the Government of India on the Indian Constitutional Reforms on the 5th March, 1919 which referred to the need for setting up some permanent office charged with the regulation of service matters. This concept of a body intended to be charged primarily with the regulation of service matters, found a somewhat more practical shape in the Government of India Act, 1919.   • Miscellaneous matters relating to grant of extra-ordinary pensions, reimbursement of legal expenses, etc.

  • Advising the Government on any matter referred to the Commission by the President of India.

  • On the request of the Governor of a State, to serve all or any of the needs of a State relating to recruitment, with the approval of the President.
